UNICEF and the Macedonian Institute of Media in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and with financial support from USAID worked on setting up a system for managing misinformation and support for quality media reporting on routine childhood vaccines and vaccination against COVID-19.
At the conference Increasing trust in vaccines through strategic misinformation management and quality media reporting, UNICEF and partners reviewed the activities implemented together with the Macedonian Institute of Media. A draft strategy for establishing a system that tracks and responds to trending vaccine-related questions and misinformation on routine vaccines for children and COVID-19 vaccines was presented.
The proposed misinformation management system is designed to rely on social listening both online, including social media listening tools and offline, including insights drawn from community feedback mechanisms. Participants at the conference discussed ways forward to embedding social listening systems within national health structures to support the health authorities and other stakeholders to respond to misinformation and vaccine hesitancy.
