UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls
UNDP joined the global UN 16 days of activism against gender-based violence campaign with placement of four short videos marking our key project intervention on women empowerment, women in times of disaster and supporting victims on local level.
UNDP office in North Macedonia for over a decade is part of this global movement where people from around the world come together to stand against violence against women and girls in all settings. Every year, the Campaign focuses on a specific theme. This year’s theme is “UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls” and invites everyone to play their role in ending violence against women and girls, show support and solidarity to women’s rights activists and to resist the rollback on women’s rights.
Gender-based violence is the world’s most pervasive violation of human rights, occurring everywhere in the world. Being complex phenomenon, in fighting it, UNDP takes a holistic approach, helping governments develop legal and policy frameworks that respond to international commitments on GE, and build capacities to prevent violence, as well as promote institutional environments that prevent violence and support survivors. We aim to integrate, prevent, and respond to gender-based violence across all our work, such as on economic empowerment, livelihoods, climate change and support survivors through specialized gender-based violence services.
Recognizing that gender equality is a precondition and accelerator for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, UNDP puts gender equality and the empowerment of women in the centre of its mandate.
