With a number of activities and measures, worth more than 14 million euros, the European Union and UNDP, in partnership with the institutions of North Macedonia will work for protection of the biodiversity of Lake Prespa, will support the development of sustainable agriculture and tourism, while undertaking major infrastructure interventions for managing solid waste and wastewater and stimulating regional development.

About the event
During the visit to the Prespa region, the RR of UNDP, Armen Grigoryan; the EU Ambassador, David Geer; the First Deputy President of the Government and Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Izet Mexhiti; the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy, Cvetan Tripunovski together with the Mayor Jovan Tozievski, held a press conference in the municipality of Resen, where they presented the projects EU for Prespa.
The project "Restoration of Natural Resources and Enhancing Sustainable Agriculture and Tourism" aims to significantly transform practices and behaviors among local policymakers, farmers, the private sector, CSOs, and citizens. The focus is on sustainable management and use of natural resources in the Prespa region, leading to an improved quality of life and economic development through emerging "green" pathways. Measures will address water and soil pollution, protect endangered species, and promote sustainable local economic and agricultural practices.
The project "EU for Infrastructure Improvements in the Prespa Area" aims to preserve and enhance the ecological system of the Prespa Lake area. This will be achieved through a series of interconnected capital investments within the Municipality of Resen, coupled with capacity development measures. The project will focus on improving municipal wastewater and solid waste management systems, enhance transboundary cooperation and improve connectivity and mobility around the lake through the opening of a new border crossing point with Greece, at Markova Noga.
After the press conference, the guests visited the farm „Spirit of Prespa“, whose owner, integrates agriculture production with attractive offer of rural tourism, and the visit finished at the location where the border crossing Markova noga is located, whose modernization and reopening is part of the project.
