Skopje - Working together to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals is not only an integral part of the goals, but the only way to reach them on time and to build a society in which no one is left behind. This was at the focus of today’s celebration of United Nations day in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where representatives of all UN agencies, Government officials, ambassadors, private sector, unions and civil society members gathered to mark 74 years since the creation of the organization.

“The UN day is a reminder to the UN member countries of the commitments to jointly work on achieving peace, prosperity and respect for human rights”, Zoran Popov, State secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “North Macedonia will continue to promote the core values of the UN and to be a trusty partner in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.”

Rossana Dudziak, UN Resident Coordinator applauded all important, recent, joint achievements, adding

“everything we manage to do here depends heavily on strong partnerships with Government, civil society, academic and the private sector… and of course on the generosity of our many partners,” says Rossana Dudziak, UN Resident Coordinator.

Dudziak also spoke about the new Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework that is being developed, as a fundamental instrument for localization of UN’s vision of a better world and clear direction to the mankind for advancement of quality of life in the period 2015-2030.

“We need to work jointly on identifying the problems, the vision and the priorities on which we will work on in the next five years, not only because it is the right way to do this, but also because it is our duty to work together and it is the only way that will ensure full achievement of our goals”, Dudziak says. “Whether in creating new, decent jobs, building strong institutions, protecting the environment or ensuring equal rights for all people, none of the Sustainable Development Goals can be achieved without everyone pitching in to help.”

During the past week, a traditional online campaign entitled #ИЈасИмамЦел is also being implemented, focusing this year on advocates for change who directly contribute for North Macedonia to reach its SDG targets and to build a fairer, cleaner and safer society, where no one is left behind.
