The national Parliament has adopted the new country Resolution on Migration Policy and its Action Plan for 2021-2025 on the 117 session, held on 23.12.2021
The aim of the Resolution is to create institutional and other prerequisites for development of a sustainable and comprehensive framework for managing regular and irregular external migration, in order to promote the development of the country. It includes five strategic areas: Supporting framework; Reliable and relevant data on external migration; Managing regular migration; Control and management of irregular migration; and Building partnerships and international cooperation, and a number of strategic objectives.
The document also shows the relevant aspects of monitoring and evaluation of the progress in the implementation of the migration policy measures and activities, its financing, informing the public about the objectives and outcomes of the migration policy, as well as the possible challenges during its implementation. In the Action Plan of the Migration Policy of the Republic of North Macedonia for the period between 2021-2025, the measures and activities have been identified based on each of the strategic areas, strategic objectives, and specific strategic objectives that should provide for efficient management of the migration processes.
“We welcome the adoption of the Resolution on Migration Policy of North Macedonia which defines the strategical objectives and planned activities of the institutional stakeholders for the period 2021-2025. The Migration Policy, which has been adopted by the Parliament, ensures that the systemic requirements for good migration governance are in place focusing on strengthening the capacities for migration governance, migration data management, factoring the development aspects of migration and promoting partnerships and international cooperation”, said Sonja Bozinovska Petrushevska, Head of IOM in North Macedonia.
The Resolution on the Migration Policy of the Republic of North Macedonia 2021-2025 has been prepared by the intra-governmental body for development and implementation of the Migration Policy of the Republic of North Macedonia with the support of the Joint Program "Evidence-Based Migration Policy Planning in the Republic of North Macedonia", funded by the Migration Multi-Partner Trust Fund and jointly implemented by IOM, UNHCR and UNFPA, which aims at supporting the national institutions in improving the management of the demographic and migration dynamics in the country.
