Organizational Setting

The incumbent will operate under the overall responsibility and supervision of the Regional Programme Leader in the Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia (RPL-REU), the direct supervision of National Team Leader in North Macedonia, the technical guidance of the LTO in REU, in close collaboration with the FAO Office in North Macedonia, and will support the International Consultant and the Project Team in the delivery of the duties below specified.

Technical Focus

forestry, stakeholder engagement, capacity development, climate change, administrative support

Tasks and responsibilities

• Support the project team with access to relevant data for developing the methodology and outline program on forest damages data collection.
• Support the project team by providing information on the national policy context.
• Support the project team by providing information on the various sectoral actors’ roles including legislative aspects, as well as the existing capacities and gaps in relation to forest damages and fire monitoring.
• Desk research preparation of a report on the needs/potential for conversion of coppice forest to hight forest.
• Draft background document(s) and provide support for the development of a project idea note for resource mobilization purposes.
• Provide monthly reports on activities carried out.
• Perform other tasks as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• National of North Macedonia
• Advanced University Degree in Forestry
• At least five years of relevant work experience in forestry
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Working knowledge of English and Macedonian language

Additional Selection Criteria

• Good knowledge of policy, institutional and cross-sector coordination issues related to forestry will be an asset.
• Capacity to manage tasks in a systematic and efficient manner with judgment, analysis, independence and initiative.
• Capacity to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability to establish good working relationship and team spirit both inside the Organization and with external partners such as government officers, farmers, service providers and other relevant stakeholders.
