We marked the second anniversary of the United Nations International Day of Women in Diplomacy. Our Head of Office Vesna Ivanovikj-Castarede, jointly with the outgoing Deputy Foreign Minister Fatmire Isaki hosted an empowering panel with the esteemed ambassadors to our country from France, Sweden, Spain, Germany, including participation of the first woman ambassador of North Macedonia to the UN in Geneva.
Ambassadors shared their inspiring journeys, personal stories, showcasing the transformative power of feminist foreign policy and how challenges can become opportunities. Participation of women in decision making and foreign policy should be mainstreamed priority and adequate measures should be in place to ensure work-life balance for both women and men who embark on the journey as diplomats.
“Women are still largely excluded from positions of power and diplomacy, globally only 20.54% of all ambassadors are women. This day is a call to recognize critical contribution of women and their indispensable role in diplomacy, and we all, every day shall support equal opportunities for all women in all fields of life, including in diplomacy” – said Vesna Ivanovikj-Castarede.
On this International Day of Women in Diplomacy, we celebrate the vital role women play in global bilateral and multilateral diplomacy, contributing to development and fostering peace.
Let’s continue to uplift and empower women and girl. Together, we can break barriers and build a more inclusive world for future generations.
